Temps Get Equal Rights With Legislation

Call Centre Update News >>

The Agency Workers Regulations 2010, announced last week and currently being reviewed, pledges temps who inhabit the role for 12 weeks the same pay, holiday and basic working rights offered to permanent recruits. If unchallenged for 40 days, the rules will become binding legislation.

The move has been welcomed by the Communications Workers Union (CWU) which has worked with other unions and the government since 2008 to ensure a fairer deal for those temporary employees it says perform essentially the same role as contracted staff.

CWU general secretary Billy Hayes says: "This legislation stands to benefit thousands of comparatively low paid and disadvantaged workers in every constituency."
