ONE of the region’s most successful industries – which employs over 55,000 people in the North East – was celebrated at a major event yesterday.

St James’s Park, Newcastle, hosted the North East Contact Centre Conference where key decision makers discussed the challenges facing the future development and prosperity of call centres in the region. There are 145 call centres in the North East with large national firms such as EDF Energy and More Than among the many operators.


Shrugging off crunch

A RECRUITMENT agency has shrugged off the fallout from the global economic downturn by recording a 30% rise in annual turnover.

Newcastle’s Concept Personnel, which advertising, marketing and digital media industries, has recorded the best results in its six-year history. The firm said it completed more business in the first eight months of the current financial year than in the whole of the previous year, expanding its client base across the UK.


Contracts landed

SOME of the country’s biggest customer-facing businesses have turned to a Darlington-based training firm for help.

Evalu8d Learning and Development has landed contracts with Vodafone, Royal Sun Alliance among other large corporate clients for its special training programme focused on call centre operations.


Business launched

STUDENTS at Newcastle University Business School are dressing up to prove their entrepreneurial worth.

A group of five students have launched and are successfully running their own business, Ilove2party, which creates fancy dress costumes to order.

The students are taking the business enterprise module which gives students academic knowledge of business as well as real-world practical experiences in setting up their own business.
