Mearn’s concerns are that nearly 174 jobs will be transferred to India when the Newcastle call centre shuts down.
The row surrounding the closure has included unions, staff and rail users as they feel there will be a deterioration of service if the call centre is outsourced.
Mr Mearns said that the service on that particular rail network is bad but at least the call centre works in its present form.
He said, “I fear that the service passengers rely on will be worsened.”
The call centre is due to close in July.
