Call centre on cards for edu institutions

 The call centre would be a part of the state human resources development (HRD) department's move to set up a centralised monitoring-cum-data centre at the state HQ. Tenders have been invited for setting up the centre under the build-own-operate basis. The state government would provide space for setting up the centre in the new secretariat building and pay charges to the service providers for the services rendered. 

"The bidding process would be finalised by the end of April and work for setting up the centre would get underway from May this year," higher education deputy director Deepak K Singh told TOI recently. The move also entails introducing a centralised monitoring system using which senior officials would have access to data from the field in real time. 
 
"The selected agency would have to set up smaller centres in districts and its personnel would have to collect data independently from educational institutions relating to the number of students and teachers, physical condition of such institutions, status of implementation of various welfare schemes etc and the data would have to be transferred from districts to the state HQ," Singh said and added tracking field officials would also become possible once this system starts functioning. 
 
He said the data generated by the agency and the data supplied by the educational institutions would help the government assess the ground realities, particularly in case of wide variation in the data supplied from the two sources. 
 
Data collection and their regular updation apart, the move also envisages GIS mapping of all the existing educational institutions of the state. The information thus collected would be kept in digitised format. 
 
"This information is going to be of great use as it would help decision makers know which are the areas where the number of educational institutions are less or where there is no such institution," Singh said.
