Preston is one of 5 centres to be closed over the next 12 months
Relocations for staff are being offered in call centres in Blackpool and Blackburn, but not all the staff will be able to re-locate jobs.
Officials from the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union said workers had been left “shocked and distraught” by the announcement from the Department for Work and Pensions yesterday.
The announcement was a total shock to the staff and the Preston centre has a close knit team that will be deeply upset by the upheaval.
A spokesperson from the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union said that as unemployment was set to rise the move to close the call centre and possibly lose staff didn’t make sense. << Archive
