Business leaders say that the closure of the site in Trowbridge will leave a big gap in the area’s job market. This gap is likely to effect other smaller business in the locality.
The closure will affect 450 people who have been asked to move to another site or take voluntary redundancy.
The news of the closure could not have come at a worse time for Trowbridge as Vodafone announced a month ago that it is also closing its contact centre with the possibility of 200 people being made redundant.
"At the moment there is no indication of any major employer coming to fill that gap," said Mike Williams, from the Wessex Association of Chambers of Commerce.
A spokesman from Virgin Media said, "We know this may be a difficult message for our staff so we are committed to communicating as early and openly as possible with all affected employees." << Archive
