New Call Centre Returns Police To Streets

Budget funding for a rural emergency services dispatch centre was announced yesterday.

The centre will be opened at Ballarat. Police Minister Bob Cameron says consolidating the regional communications centres, known as D24s, will put more officers on the streets.

"As a result of the consolidation of the D24s and having the call taking done in Ballarat, that will free up 66 police. That's 66 additional police that will be able to do front-line duties," he said.
