The 999 call centre was to cover the South West with six fire services to answer calls from the centre in Somerset.

Ministers are now desperate to find a tenant for the building that will cost the tax payer £750,000 per year in rent.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is still hoping that a fire service will operate out of the centre and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services have been approached.
