The gap in the system was first highlighted during the Virginia school massacre in 2007 when children’s texts for help went nowhere.
The new system will allow users to text in a call for help when they feel that speaking will endanger them. Also, video footage and even photos will be able to be sent via the system.
The other advantage to the new system will be that callers will be able to be pin pointed to their exact location which could be life saving in getting to the caller as quickly as possible.
